Louis XIV was presented an extraordinary surprise during his visit to Chantilly - a basket filled with twelve peaches. This mystery fruit astounded the Court, who delighted in its sweet flavor and aroma. Soon afterwards, the peach rapidly became renowned as Versailles' favourite fruit.
