Couleur Vanille

COULEUR VANILLE

A SEAFARING VANILLA

In 1976, Jean-François Laporte launched L’Artisan Parfumeur with a dream: to shape nature’s palette by the hand of the artist. Since then, this iconic perfume house has reinterpreted Mother Earth’s most sublime offerings through the alchemy of human touch.

Infused with the artistic flair of Aliénor Massenet, Couleur Vanille is the scent of an odyssey. A long journey without the vagaries of weather or bad winds.

A vanilla interpreted by Aliénor Massenet

Perfume is an invitation to a dream, a poem of possibilities. For the master perfumer, exquisite raw botanicals not only suggest the place where they are grown, but also the feeling that place evokes.

Perfumer Aliénor Massenet was leafing through an atlas when she suddenly visualised sailing off the fabled island of Madagascar.

The trade winds swelling with sensual hints of the land’s astonishing bounty. The heat of the sun amplifying the fantasy. «The images started to take shape. I could smell the aroma of a vanilla pod, subtly bathed in bergamot, everlasting, benzoin and tolu balm,

and gently caressed by a salty sea breeze with a dash of iodine. The whole story was there for the taking…».

For Couleur Vanille, Aliénor Massenet developed a custom-made vanilla combining vanilla absolute with a Fair Trade vanilla from Madagascar.

This composition pays tribute to the artisanal expertise of local Madagascan farmers.

"Vanilla is a rich and precious ingredient which possesses a strong duality. This black gold, sweet and mellow, stirs an animal addiction, revealing an extremely powerful character. Smelling it transports me."

FAIR TRADE VANILLA EXTRA MADAGASCAR

The black flower of the Maya and Aztec peoples, vanilla was brought to Europe in the 16th century by the Spanish conquerors or conquistadors.

Although it was first used for medicinal purposes, the perfume industry started to take an interest in its sophisticated, delicious, chocolatey aroma from the 19th century onwards. The pods are the fruit of certain tropical orchids belonging to the Vanilla genus.

IMMORTELLE FLOWER

Picked mainly in the rocky Corsican lands, this small wildflower with the sweet name of Immortelle, never fades. Its latin name Helichrysum means golden sun in homage to its yellow flowers with blue-toned reflections.

Known since the Ancient Era, the Immortelle flower is often associated with the god Apollo who wore them to recall his own immortality.

Although this flower never fades, the harvesting only takes place for a few days in summer. Its contradictory aromas of salty spices and sweet notes of honey bring this specific personality to the final juice.

BERGAMOT

Faithful to the Italian province of Calabria, a region famed worldwide for its citruses, the bergamot tree is a reminder of gentle spring days.

The bergamot fruit with its greenish flesh and thick yellow skin is harvested in the chilly month of January when the fruit blossoms with orange, peppered notes.

This small citrus is used for its freshness and smoky lavender tones, aromas adding an unexpected twist to the final scent.

FLEUR DE SEL

A fleur de sel accord developed by Aliénor Massenet to evoke the gentle caress of a salty sea breeze with a dash of iodine.

The marine note originates from the Perfumer’s imagination but also from natural plants such as the blue cypress, lotus and criste marine

For this accord, Aliénor Massenet has used a combination of three synthetic raw ingredients. The latter is a volatile top note which recalls the open sea.
