The underside of L'Artisan Parfumeur

In 1976 Jean Laporte opened his first shop on rue de Grenelle, the realisation of his lifelong quest for beauty and dedication to artistry. A nature lover with a deep appreciation for the handicrafts of his childhood village, Jean Laporte above all prized quality.

Quality of the materials in his perfumes, quality of the rapport with his customers - values at the heart of L'Artisan Parfumeur. Values that still reverberate more than 40 years on in such iconic creations as Mûre et Musc, Mûre et Musc Extrême, Premier Figuier, Histoire d'Orangers, and La Chasse aux Papillons.

Stories, creative anecdotes, unique olfactory notes and crafts to discover and whose secrets are revealed with L'Artisan Parfumeur.

    A red fruit accord

In 1978, Jean Laporte worked with synthetic musks, enhancing the fruity notes with the help of blackcurrant and Frambinone. On the advice of his perfumer friend Jean-Claude Ellena, he airs the accord with an herbaceous and chypre frame. Perfumer Karine Dubreuil enhanced the fruity signature of Mûre & Musc with an Extreme version in 1993.

    Armfuls of white flowers

In 1999, Anne Flipo was inspired by her childhood to create a poetic perfume. La Chasse aux Papillons, a memory of summers spent running around with her brother in short pants in gardens. An ode to spring. The carefree spirit of the fine weather and the audacity to sublimate nature inspired by intimate moments.

    The first fig accord

In 1994, Olivia Giacobetti created the first fig accord in perfumery, as original as it was unexpected. A creation that immerses you into the delights of a nap in the shade of a fig tree, lulled by the green scent of its leaves, the milky scent of ripe fruit and the woody notes of the tree.

    A sunny diversion

Histoire d'Orangers is one of those scents, reminiscence of intimate moments. The memory of a trip to Morocco, where Marie Salamagne discovered these ochre, arid lands. As she rested, in the comforting shade of the orange trees, the warm light of the sunset intensifies the colours of the raw land and the atmosphere gets fresher.

    A salted vanilla

With Couleur Vanille, Aliénor Massenet dreamed of an escape, that of an exotic and distant journey, off the coast of Madagascar. A solar note, around a suave, unctuous vanilla pod, subtly bathed in bergamot, everlasting, benzoin and tolu balm, and gently caressed by a salty sea breeze with a dash of iodine.

    A salted and fresh accord

A marine accord imagined as a salt vapour to delicately evoke the sea sprays. A canvas on which the absolute of seaweed and the absolute of cypress are overlayed, which balance the tempestuous heart of the fragrance and bring a touch of green that evokes Britany. On the skin, the breeze gives way to an addictive softness...

The first boutique on rue de Grenelle bears witness to Jean Laporte's loves and inspirations. Trained as a chemist, this nature-loving man, whose childhood was spent in the fields of Auvergne picking flowers, imagines fragrances with a bucolic, poetic touch, made with essences and natural ingredients he carefully selects.

Jean Laporte also draws from his youth a quest for beauty, an admiration for craftsmanship, which he imbues into his brand. Perfumery, Les Boules d'Ambres, potpourri and ceramics are all illustrations of his passion for know-how.

A legacy that L'Artisan Parfumeur continues to carry on more than forty years later, and which is behind each of the brand's iconic fragrances.
