Histoire d’orangers

by L’Artisan Parfumeur

The Freedom of Marie Salamagne

Travelling always brings about metamorphosis. By taking distance from what is familiar, our eyes are opened. When we break with the habitual, our senses are awakened. The retina absorbs unusual colours. The nose maps out each new olfactory scent and the heart beat accelerates. Histoire D’Orangers by L’Artisan Parfumeur is a tribute to a memory. This is that of the perfumer Marie Salamagne travelling in the valley of Souss, at the foothills of the Anti-Atlas, between Tazenaght and Taroudant in Morocco. It is an adventure that had a lasting impact from which she returned a changed person.

A sunny diversion in the shade of the bitter orange trees. Une Histoire d’Orangers.

In the Shade of the Bitter Orange Trees

In the Shade of the Bitter Orange Trees

On her trip to the valley of Souss she says: 'My memory of the sunset on Taroudant walls remains untouched. Suddenly, the valley takes on exceptional shades, a warm light intensifies the colours of the raw land and the atmosphere gets fresher. Each time I think of this majestic landscape, I think of orange tree flower water. A delicate and delicious water, ultra-refreshing and incredibly luminous.'

It is that contrast between the heat that cracks the ground and the comforting shade of the trees that inspires the perfumer.

An exquisite scent

An exquisite scent

We recognize immediately the purity of the orange blossom, gentle and exquisite. It seems weightless, lifted towards the skies. The molecular imprint of white tea mixes with the fresh petals. Then come the downy musk and the ambrox overdose which creates an effect of silk on a skin warmed by the sun. Finally, the tonka bean with its lightly almond facet echoes argan, that one finds everywhere in the valley.
