This human-sized shrub only knows the scorching temperatures of Andalusia. It secretes a viscous resin (labdanum) to prevent dehydration. For a few days, the ambery, caramelised aroma permeates the surrounding air. Extraction of the leaves and stems produces a rich, sweet, amber and vanilla essence or absolute, reminiscent of incense.
