As a child Jean Laporte spent blissful days with his grandmother in the foothills of the Auvergne.

It was here that he fell in love with nature’s vibrant, panoramic beauty whilst finding his vocation as a botanist. It was here too that he discovered the flowers, fruits, trees and aromatics that would inform his first fragrances.
Once L'Artisan Parfumeur had launched, Jean Laporte decided to bring his passions to life further still by creating, in 2000, a perfumer’s garden, in Mézilles, Burgundy. A paradise of green, where fragrance and foliage moved in tune with the seasons, and where fertile minds would find fragrant inspiration - this, along with the freedom given to those who create them - is a key to the creativity that characterises the brand.
Such a unique source of inspiration, led initially to Mûre et Musc, and more recently Les Paysages, Abyssae and Il Était Un Bois. A generous man, Jean Laporte created a garden that was far from a guarded secret, but somewhere open to the public. This was new. Proving once again that he was first and foremost a perfumer, but also a visionary.
