Star anise

Illicium Verum

Originating in the mountains of southern China, badiane was discovered by the explorer Marco Polo, who brought it back to Europe. It is also known as “star anise” because of the shape of its eight-branched fruit. Often confused with green anise, it shares a fresh, herbaceous note and a sweet taste reminiscent of liquorice.
