After fruit, L’Artisan Parfumeur experiments with woody notes.

For Jean Laporte, the plant world is an inexhaustible reservoir of inspiration, one that requires knowledge, and curiosity; and only then might one uncover a truly unique olfactory signature. Jean-Claude Ellena’s Bois Farine is a perfect example. After discovering that surprising flour notes emanate from a white tree on Réunion island, he was able to evoke an entirely new world; one with cake dough, hazelnuts and wheat, sprinkled with the magic of musk and iris.
Moving from fruit to trees and back again, L’Artisan Parfumeur once again demonstrates that sources of inspiration lie all around. Probing and pondering branches, trunks and foliage, before taking that unexpected step that leads the brand into its unique creations. From delicate essences such as rose, sandalwood and mahogany, to most forested notes such as cedar, birch, cypress and oak whilst encompassing exotic essences such as oud – the embodiment of strength – L’Artisan Parfumeur knows no limits. Better still it sheds new light on unsuspected treasures, such as vetiver, a highlight of Caroline Dumur’s brand new and evocatively-titled oeuvre: Il Était Un Bois.
I wanted to find a different way of exploring wood, adding unexpected dimensions and textures.
